How it Works

Upon ordering virus/spam scanning we change the MX record for your domain, so that all emails are directed to our dedicated email system which scans your email for spam and viruses. Once it has finished scanning your email it will relay it on to your usual mail server.

If an email contains a virus it will be contained on the server and not passed on to you. The spam scanning software used is called SpamAssassin. This software works on a scoring system. Each email scanned is given a score depending on which tests it passes or fails. If the score is over a certain number it is considered as spam. The software then tags the email by altering the subject of the email, adding 'possible spam'. Please note that we do not delete emails tagged as spam, this is because although the software is very accurate it is not 100%. There is a chance that it will tag an email which is not spam. You can use mail rules within your email client to move the tagged emails to another folder. This will separate the majority of spam away from your regular email.
